What can we say about Big Freedia that these videos don’t say for us? She is the fabulous Queen Diva of New Orleans Bounce, and for those of you who don’t know about New Orleans Bounce, it’s bass-heavy hip hop that gets the ladies booties shakin’! She brought fans on stage and had an intense dance off, and got everyone involved in a wild booty poppin’ extravaganza. Definitely a must see.
Here’s Merch’s interview the Queen, herself:
You gotta see these ladies and gents twerk-in-it hard.
We saw a ton of amazing bands on Day 2 of Fun Fun Fun Fest, and we have posted a handful of photos for you to check out. We saw more bands than these on the second day of fun, but here are some highlights.
Announced via Facebook, award-winning freestyle emcee Eyedea of the hip hop duo Eyedea and Abilities passed away on Sunday. BC had the pleasure of interviewing him last year when Eyedea and Abilities were supporting Atmosphere on tour. Though we only spoke briefly, we remember him as being very funny and quick-witted, and an all-around nice guy, not to mention an amazing emcee. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.
Like a dream come true, BC & Merch interview P-Thugg of the funkalicous Canadian duo Chromeo! We discuss their new album Business Casual (out Sep. 14), their collaboration with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, and hear about bribing customs officers while on tour.
The ultra-fabulous Kid Sister will be rolling into Austin tomorrow night at The Mohawk. The Chicago-based Kid Sis broke out with her hit single “Pro-Nails,” which featured Kanye West. She is known for her slick rhymes, dance beats, and glossy nails (she also happens to be the older sister of one-half of DJ duo Flosstradamus).
Last week we were lucky enough to sit down with the dancey-duo known as Woodhands. As you know, we talk about them all the time and have been playing their tracks since the beginning of our show. We were stoked to chat with them before their performance at Emo’s. Their set was super high-energy and had audience members yelling out, “Where are y’all from?!” Dan and Paul, who make up Woodhands, told us our interview pumped them up before the show, so we hope you enjoy it.
