The Conjuring Film Premiere

-3

Last week we were invited to attend a sneak screening of The Conjuring at the beautiful Paramount Theater in Austin thanks to our friends at Warner Bros Entertainment. This Supernatural thriller is about a couple who are well-known paranormal investigators who helped a family with haunting in their new farm home. Here’s a snippit of our experience…

As we entered the theater we were handed ‘Demon Protection Kits’ filled with holy water, a rosery and a saints card. Oh.My.Lawd.

Before the movie started a panel of ghost hunters that talked about the Paramount’s own haunting!

The Conjuring has a great cast including Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson,  Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor. Let’s just say…this movie was flippin’ insane and we were gripping our seats the entirety of the movie. We actually squealed out loud. Loud, screeching noises, dark basements, creaky floors, creepy little girls, and a ton of crap we’re not going to tell you about. Check out the trailer and see the film in theaters this Friday, July 19th!

Director: James Wan

Writers: Chad Hayes & Carey W. Hayes

Producers: Tony DeRosa-Grund, Peter Safran, Rob Cowan

Austin Sound & Cinema: “Labyrinth” w/ Super Creeps

sasposter_labyrinth

Have we discovered the best possibly way possible to watch Labyrinth? We think so. Outdoors, picnic style, view of the city, food trucks, drink, and live frickin’ music from Super Creeps. We’re super stoked to head over to Austin Sound & Cinema this Wednesday June 5th, and have already booked the rest of the movie dates in our cal (that’s short for calendar. What was the point of shortening that?).

Make sure you twerk your commute via car2go, bike or carpool, because as we all know, downtown Austin gets crowded as shizz when there’s free events. We’re ok with that. Question: how many people can you fit in a car2go? Two. We’re not admitting to shoving more than two into one of those awesome clown cars…at least not in the past four days. Wait, three days. Nevermind. The point is, they will have a free car2go drop off zone at the park so you can fill up as many cars as you can. That’s amazies.

You can get all the deets & remind yourself on Facebook here and RSVP here for a chance to win an Alamo Drafthouse gift card from DO512!

See ya there little ponies!

[Review] Geto Boys @ Emo’s East 1.26.2013

4936_geto-boys

14 years of patience and I FINALLY got to see legendary Houston hip hop trio and godfathers of Southern rap, Geto Boys. I can remember convincing my grandmother that she should take my brother and I to see Office Space in theaters (I was 12 and my grandmother was too sweet to think we would want to go to an “inappropriate” film). With artists like Ice Cube, Biz Markie, Kool Keith, and of course, Geto Boys, the soundtrack to that movie solidified my love for hip hop.

Though Willie D, Scarface, and Bushwick Bill are over 40, that didn’t stop them from bringing the house down at Emo’s East on Saturday night.

The show started off with each member coming out and performing some of their solo songs before they kicked it up a notch and tore up classic tracks like “Gangster of Love,” “Chuckie,” My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me,” and, of course, “Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster.”

Willie D and Scarface even jumped off the set-list a few times to do some freestyles and beat boxes. But the best part of the night was Scarface’s awkwardly awesome facial expressions as he and Willie D tried to keep a leash on the incredibly drunk Bushwick Bill. Bushwick was downing Jagermeister and more or less stumbling around the stage, but, to my surprise, didn’t skip a beat when it came to his rhymes.

I would have hoped for better video and some good photos, but there was so much ganja smoke filling the venue that my Android camera was rendered almost useless. But here’s my video for “Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster,” any way.

Geto Boys 4 Life.

Fun Fest Photos: Day 1

Fun Fun Fun Fest 2012 was a a culmination of amazing bands and dust, and it was awesome. This festival continues to be our favorite and pulls together bands who haven’t played together in years, as well as highlighting some of the great upcoming-talent that deserves a spot like this.  Bravo to our friends at Transmission Entertainment for throwing a dizzam good party, once again. We shot some great shots over the weekend and will highlight each day with our faves. View Merch’s Flickr page for more.
