BC’s Top 50 Fav Hip-Hop Songs of All Time (#10-1)

Well, we’ve reach the pinnacle… the BEST OF THE BEST… the Rocky of Hip Hop lists, if you will. Or Rambo. Or Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All The Way. Or whatever.

I have listened to each of these songs hundreds, if not thousands, of times. They are in heavy rotation every time I DJ, as well as in my car and my iTunes… and in my heart. (Insert sad fog-horn here)

Now, before I ramble too much, let’s finish this bad boy.

[Throwback Thursday] Warren G feat. Nate Dogg | “Regulate”

It’s been just over a year since Nate Dogg passed away, and I thought it appropriate to honor him with what is probably his best, and most well-known, track. Warren G’s “Regulate” introduced the world to Nate Dogg’s laid-back, soulful voice, which masked the fact that Nate has no problems with gunning a mofo down.

After “Regulate,” Nate went on to be featured in a slew of other hits, such as Mark Ronson’s “Ooh Wee” and, of course, Dr. Dre and Snoop’s “The Next Episode,” where Nate drops words to live by: “Smoke weed everyday.”

The Game feat. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg | “Drug Test”

West Coast represents in-full on the latest track by The Game. “Drug Test” is going to be on The Game’s long-awaited LP, The R.E.D. Album, and features G-funk legends Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre (who’s Detox album may be more of a legend than he is, at this point).

“Drug Test” features hard beats and a catchy hook with the tag line “Let’s get high off somethin.” It’s nice to know they aren’t being picky.

Dr. Dre feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey | “I Need A Doctor”

This is definitely a rough and unfinished track from Dr. Dre‘s long-awaited, supposedly upcoming album, Detox. I gotta say, though, that even with all these “unfinished” tracks that have been leaking out over the last year, I have no idea what to expect with Dre’s new album. “I Need A Doctor” is epic, with Eminem practically shouting out his rhymes, and Dre almost half-assing his. The previously leaked “Kush” is much better, in my opinion.

Let’s hope this is just a diamond in the rough, and the new album ends up being Chronic 2001 caliber.

Dr. Dre feat. Snoog Dogg, Akon | “Kush”

Dr. Dre‘s first (supposed) official single in years, and it’s about, what else, smoking weed. But that’s what we love about the D-R-E, right? Actually, Dre has been quoted as saying this is the only track that’s about weed, so I guess the rest will be about being rich and lifting weights, but I don’t care, because it’s Dr. Dre and we’ve been waiting on Detox for over 10 years.

It’s also got a verse from Dre’s right-hand man, Snoop Dogg, and some wailing/singing/whatever from Akon.
