BC’s 15 “Must-See” Artists at South By Southwest 2013

sxsw+2013-1

Much of the inner-Austin area will be shut down this weekend, overrun by industry execs from the film, music, and tech world. That is, essentially, what South by Southwest means to Austinites. It sounds miserable, I know, but at least we can mooch as much as possible from the festival by attending its many free shows, and quite a few of the showcases have amazing artists. Here’s a few  sets that are free and (fairly) easy to get into, and seriously can’t be missed.

[Mashup Monday] D.VELOPED – Totally Recalled (Flosstradamus Mashup)

After some copyright issues with their original version of “Total Recall,” Flosstradamus gets a mashup remix by North Carolina (RAISE UP!) producer D.VELOPED.

There’s samples of Beastie Boys, Lil’ Jon, Outkast, The Gorillaz, and Quad City DJ’s. Hollaaaaa

Flosstradamus | “Total Recall”

Chicago duo Flosstradamus seem to have left behind their mash-ups and pop tracks to move into some more electronic/house flair, and it’s sounding pretty good, thus far. “Total Recall” is supposed to be a showcase of the new direction they’re heading in. At 3 and 1/2 minutes, the song hits hard and pulsates with a grinding beat and infinite hand claps. The song has already hit #1 on the Hype Machine lists. RAGE.

Flosstradamus @ Republic Live 10/7

Some of our favorite DJs, Flosstradamus, are coming back to the ATX next week as part of the Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Tour! And IT’S FREE (w/ RSVP)!

For those of you who don’t know these guys, they’ve done insane mashups like Lil Jon vs. Zombie Nation and Twista vs. Sigur Ros. And their live set is a giant dance party, so be there or be lame.

RSVP at Do512

Flosstradamus @ Red 7 – 7/29/2010

Chicago-based Flosstradamus, consisting of DJs Autobot and J2k (who also happens to be Kid Sister‘s brother), are returning to Austin next week, and if you’ve seen these guys before, you know it isn’t to be missed.

Flosstradamus do some wicked mashups (like their Lil Jon/Zombie NationAct A Fool” number) and even some great originals (their “Big Bills” single featuring Caroline Polachek (of Chairlift), which was released on Green Label Sound). They’ve worked with artists like Chromeo, The Cool Kids, A-Trak, and were even featured on Nick Jr’s Yo Gabba Gabba.

Kid Sister @ The Mohawk – 6/4/2010

The ultra-fabulous Kid Sister will be rolling into Austin tomorrow night at The Mohawk. The Chicago-based Kid Sis broke out with her hit single “Pro-Nails,” which featured Kanye West. She is known for her slick rhymes, dance beats, and glossy nails (she also happens to be the older sister of one-half of DJ duo Flosstradamus).

She will be playing with Riders Against the Storm, Perseph One, Mic Skills, plus DJs The Get Right Kids.

We had the privilege of interviewing her back in November during Fun Fun Fun Fest, and she was fan-tastic! Check it out:
