Thanks to one of our favorite hip hop heads for sending us The Cool Kids debut album, When Fish Ride Bicycles. It’s been 3 years since they released anything official, and When Fish Ride Bicycles is chock-full of those laid-back, old-school jams you come to expect from the Chi-town boys.
“Summer Jam” is one of my favorites off the album, with its West-coast G-funk sound, perfect to cool off in the summer heat.
Regardless of the temperature topping 100 for the last month, yesterday was “technically” the first day of summer. To celebrate this insane heat, here’s a summer-y new track from our boys The Cool Kids, featuring soul-man Mayer Hawthorne.
It was only a matter of time before two artists we’ve featured on our mixtapes would collaborate. Now, we don’t want to say we’re solely responsible, but they know where credit is due.
19-year-old Mac Miller hit it big after he dropped the Best Day Ever mixtape on March 11, and his single “Donald Trump,” who’s video garnered over 1 million hits within its first week of release. Then, he was buzzing all over SXSW, playing shows with Wiz Khalifa and The Cool Kids.
He just leaked his latest track, “On And On,” and it’s definitely got that “anthem” sound. Listen and throw yo hands up.
It’s been a while since we heard some new stuff from Chi-town’s The Cool Kids. They’re gearing up for their new album so they’ve decided to share this bumpin’ track. “Bundle Up” might not be appropraite for all of us who are already enjoying the spring weather, but we’ll sure listen in envy when the heat hits triple digits in a few months down here in Texas. Enjoy!
Chicage emcees The Cool Kids are rolling back through Austin tonight, and we’re pumped! They’ve got a great old-school hip hop sound and rock a great live set. (We also have their track “Pump Up The Volume” on our FREE Fall Sampler!)
Supporting sets from Kydd, Napalm, GOBI, Roosh Williams and Lee Coretta. Tickets are $18, show starts at 7, Cool Kids go on at 9:30.
Over the last few years, former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has really been diving into hip hop. He drummed for Alabama rapper Yelawolf‘s latest album, and his upcoming solo album, Give The Drummer Some, will feature artists like RZA, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Raekwon, and B.o.B.
