[New Video!] Rye Rye | “Boom Boom”

Long-time M.I.A. protege, Rye Rye, has dropped what seems to be her first try at a “pop” track. Rye Rye typically serves up hip hop with some world music flavor (much like M.I.A., surprise surprise), but on “Boom Boom,” she takes those elements and adds a pop-soaked chorus. While the song may add more cheese than what Rye Rye usually drops, the video is, for lack of a better phrase, friggin’ awesome!

The video is heavily influenced by old-school video games like Street Fighter and Mega Man, but throws in an insane amount of random colors and objects (like breakdance-fighting and rainbow-colored mushrooms). At one point, Rye Rye is riding a purple dolphin that shoots LASERS at Rye Rye doppelgangers.

It’s 90% nuts, and 100% awesome.

[New Release] Santigold | “Big Mouth”

Our favorite Philly diva, Santigold, is back with a new single (and a ridiculously 90s-quality video). “Big Mouth” offers Santigold’s signature world music-meets-new wave sound, and she even takes a jab at Lady Gaga (in the video a Lady Gaga-like mermaid is eaten by a cartoon tiger… excellent!). It’s good to know after 2+ years without releases, Santigold is bringing back the flavor.

Look out for a new album this Spring.

Beastie Boys feat. Santigold | “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win (Major Lazer Remix)”

It was only a matter of time before we got a slew of remixes off the new Beastie Boys record, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. This has been my favorite so far, with Major Lazer (also known as monster DJs Diplo and Switch) adding their touch of electro-reggae to the mix.

And I really can’t get over the kick ass cover art.

Santigold feat. Karen O | “Go”

Finally, Santigold is giving us some new friggin’ music. It’s been almost 3 years since she released her self-titled debut album. “Go” is what you’ve come to expect from Santigold, some M.I.A.-strange, yet dancey, music, and she even brought the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O along.
